The times when you really experience the spirit of God are the times when you’re really trying to make disciples. We claim Matthew 28, the great commission—Jesus said he would be with us always… but what is that in the context of? As you’re going out and you’re making disciples and you’re baptizing people and teaching them everything that He has commanded…

Why was the holy Spirit given in acts 1:8? You’ll receive power, but for what? To be His witness.

Sometimes we try so hard to experience the Holy Spirit in a room like this. The emphasis seems to be these times that we get together and sing. And someone says, ‘I think I felt Him.. yup, that was Him.’ Really? Is that the most biblical thing you think of? Or do you read the Bible and think, ‘It seems like these people that were outspoken and went out and made disciples were the ones that experienced the Holy Spirit in some of the craziest of ways.’

Lawd. That’s a word.

evenshteven asked: Looking back at the quote by Tim Keller on tithing, I realize I don't understand the context. Was it his intention to point out that a 10 percent weekly offering isn't all that is required of us or that tithing is not biblical? Or something else?

Francis Chan does a great job of explaining where I stand on tithing & where I believe Keller was headed with that quote.

The only way that we’re really going to have an impact in the world is when we stop just relying on services to reach the world. A lot of people never get there. It’s going to take some contact. We as believers have to learn how to look other human beings in the eyes & have a relationship with them. Not just yell at them from a street corner, but look them in the eyes, listen to them, hear about their lives & teach them how to center their lives around the God who created them.

I’m like a piece of clay trying to explain to other pieces of clay what the Potter is like. Think about that for a second. It shows the silliness for any of us to think we’re ‘“experts” on Him.
